It has been confirmed that the next phase of the Renters’ Rights Bill will not commence for another month. If you would like to see the 12 key components being discussed please click here to read our recent blog. This will affect Brighton and Hove lettings in the same way as the rest of the UK.

The committee stage of the Bill is scheduled to begin in the House of Lords on April 22, following the Easter recess, with another session set for April 24.

During the committee stage, peers will conduct a detailed review of the Bill, examining it line by line and considering potential amendments.

The National Residential Landlords Association is backing two proposed amendments regarding rent arrears, intended to reassure landlords that they can quickly regain possession of their properties if tenants stop making payments.

Since the Bill was last debated in the Lords on February 4, approximately 50 pages of amendments have been submitted.

Once the committee stage is complete, a date will be set for the Report Stage and the Third Reading, which usually take place on the same day in the full chamber rather than in committee.

The Bill is anticipated to become law by the summer. Why can’t it be Autumn or Spring rather than peak season, they do this every time!! As the only personal letting agent in Brighton I will be able to guide our clients through the new legislation one to one using my 26 years of experience.
